Abstract

740,122. Windows. SHANKS & SONS, Ltd., E. O. April 15, 1954, No. 11111/54. Class 20(3). In a wooden window frame having at least two glazing spaces, the frame members 11, 12, 13, are so formed that the glazing apertures may receive a fixed light 20 or a sub-frame 19, the latter either being hinged as at 24 or forming a fixed light. The frame members are stepped to form surfaces 17, 22, and additionally stepped to form surfaces 33, 21, the latter having a ridge 23 provided thereon which projects into the glazing aperture a distance less than the surface 22. In a frame having a mullion and transom to form four glazing apertures the transom may have either its upper or lower surface formed without the ridge 23 if the corresponding glazing apertures are to receive fixed lights only. Sealing and weathering grooves 25, 31, and 32 and wall engaging grooves 29 may be provided.
