Abstract

740,059. Rocket projectiles. VERWALTUNGSGES. DER WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. April 12,1954 [April 23, 1953], No. 10690/54. Class 9(1) A rocket body 1 is fitted with a nozzle 2 on which is an extension 3. Stabilizing fins are fixed on rotatably mounted pivots 10, each pivot having a pinion 12 meshing with a toothed crown 5 which is journalled around the throat of the nozzle. A helical spring 6 is secured at the end in a recess 7 in the nozzle and at the other end in a bore 8 in the crown 5. Before launching the rocket, the fins are held in the folded position by a cap (not shown). As the rocket is inserted into the launching tube, the cap is pushed off and the fins bear against the tube. After launching, the spring 6 turns the crown 5 thus rotating the pinions 12 and carrying the fins to the extended position where they are locked by the engagement of recesses 11a, 12a in the bearing 11 and pinion 12 respectively. Compression springs 14 on the pivots 10 move the pivots longitudinally to bring the recesses into engagement.
