Abstract
740,016. Dynamometers. DOWTY HYDRAULIC. UNITS, Ltd., [formerly DOWTY AUTO UNITS, Ltd.]. May 28, 1954 [May 29, 1953], No. 15039/53. Class 106 (2). An apparatus for testing pit props comprises a hydraulic cylinder-and-piston 13, 14 for raising a platform 15 on which a prop to be tested is placed, and indicator means such as a pressure gauge for measuring the load applied to the prop when forced against the roof of the mine; the whole being so arranged that the cylinder-and-piston 13, 14 surrounds the lower end of the pit prop. A hand-operated pump 23 provides the necessary fluid pressure. A vertical column 20, outside the cylinder 13, carries a vertically adjustable guide-plate 21 for holding the prop to be tested coaxial with the piston and cylinder assembly. The whole apparatus is mounted on a skid-plate 11. The pit props may be of the hydraulic type incorporating relief valves designed to open at a pressure in excess of that at which the props are set against the roof of a mine.
