740,004. Shoe shank stiffeners. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd. (United Shoe Machinery Corporation). Nov. 20, 1953 [Nov. 21, 1952], No. 29422/52. Class 17 (2). A metal shank stiffener 10 having ribs 12 is attached to a fibre board shank and heelpiece 11 by prongs 14. The prongs 14 are struck from the edge of the stiffener and are formed with long and short edge faces 16, 18 and an end face 20 at an acute angle to the face 16 and at an obtuse angle to the face 18 so that a sharp edge 22 is formed offset from the stiffener edge, thus reducing the tendency for the prongs to weaken the piece 11.
