Abstract

739,504. Centrifugal separators. HOWDEN & CO., Ltd., J. May 20, 1954 [Nov. 30, 1953], No. 33252/53. Class 23. In a return-flow type cyclone separator fine dust deposited in the gas outlet tube is removed by a scraper having axial or rotational movement. As shown in Fig. 4, the scraper is axially movable in the gas outlet 16, and comprises a helical wire 21 having a coaxial extension 23 which serves to remove dust obstructing the dust outlet 15 of the cyclone. In modifications the scraper comprises a twisted thin metal strip or a perforated thin metal tube. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 7, the invention is applied to a multi-cell separator, the scrapers 20 depending from a frame 31 moved between stops 32, 34 by the pistons 36 of air cylinders 38. The movement of the frame may be arranged so that its impact on the stops causes vibration of the scrapers to improve their cleaning action. The frame may be supported on springs and moved by rotary cams. In a modification in which the scraper is rotary and mounted in a support, a pinion secured to the scraper is engaged by a reciprocatable rack.
