An electric radiator or air heater for rooms is of large superficial area in relation to its thickness and comprises two metal sheets 1, 2 formed with serpentine channels 3 enclosing an electric heater when the sheets are superposed, the outer face of one sheet being bright and of the other sheet dull. The radiator is mounted in a metal casing 19 open at its front through a grill 11 and and open at its bottom. Partitions 12, 14 are mounted across the width of the casing behind the heater and are bent forward at the top to direct air through the grill 11. The heater comprises a helical resistance wire 5 sheathed by insulating sleeves or beads. The dull face of the sheet is produced by black paint or spraying or brushing colloidal graphite in acetone on the sheet and shot blasting or roughening the coated surface to increase the radiating area. The serpentine channel is formed in one or both sheets and comprises straight vertical runs joined at the ends by semicircular grooves, the sheets being screwed or riveted together. Louvres 8 may be pressed out of the metal sheets between the vertical grooves. Clothes may be dried on the casing 19, the top of which is open or closed. One or more lamps. 21 illuminate the front of the heater and indicate whether the current supply is switched on. An adjustable thermostat 20 is mounted in a side of the casing and acts as a safety device if the casing falls forward, so as to trap hot air in the casing. A water trough with wicks may be provided at the top or bottom of the casing.
