Abstract

Class 39(3) A space heater of the radiant type comprising one or more resistance heating elements 1 in a reflector 2, especially for mounting on a wall or ceiling for radiation downwards has between the heating part and a terminal compartment 5 a ventilated compartment 4 through which leads 14 pass from the heater to a terminal block 15. Orifices 6 in the walls of the compartment 4 to allow cooling of the leads are rectangular or elliptical with their longer sides transverse to the heater and are staggered as shown to elongate the heat conduction path to the terminal compartment. The reflector 2 is an aluminium sheet in which the orifices are stamped before it is bent to shape and fitted with a plate 8 supporting two looped heaters 1, a terminal plate 9 and an end cover 10 with a lower extension also formed with orifices. The heaters 1 are of the coiled wire or tubular sheath type and the compartments 4, 5 may be formed separately from and added to the end face of the reflector. A sheet of aluminium is bent on lines parallel to its length to form a reflector with five flat portions of which the middle three are at 140 degrees to each other where they adjoin.
