Abstract

Class 24 [Also in Group XII] An endless chain comprises links formed by side members 2 and 3 connected by a bush 4 provided at each end with an external flat 5 which fits within a D-shaped aperture 6 in the side member 2 or 3 to prevent rotation of the bush relative to the side members. Adjacent links are connected together by means of a cylindrical pin 7 extending through and axially slidable in aligned apertures 8 in the side members 2 and 3. The pin 7 is provided at each end with a flat 10. A cross piece 15 is secured to the side members 2 and 3 by stud bolts 17 and has lateral projections 16 which engage the flats 19 to prevent rotation of the pin and also engage the shoulders 19 formed at the inner ends of the flats 10 to prevent or limit axial movement of the pin. The base portion 20 of the cross piece 15 is spaced from the adjacent edges of the side members 2 and 3 to provide clearance space for sprockets (not shown) which engage the bush 4. An alternative chain construction comprises links in the form of inner and outer pairs of flat plates, the inner plates being connected together by two bushes having ends of reduced diameter and extremities which are riveted over, and the outer plates being provided with two cross pieces 15. A travelling grate is described (see Group XII) wherein rotation and axial movement of the pins connecting the links are prevented by means similar to those described above.
