Abstract
739,056. Automatic speed control systems. MOORE, J. R. C. April 13, 1953 [April 16, 1952], No. 9480/52. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XXXVI] Frequency-responsive apparatus comprises two or more poly-phase-operated windings producing oppositely - acting rotating fields about a cylindrical induction rotor. A tachometer receiver or indicator, Fig. 1, has two starconnected stator windings 5, 7 producing opposite rotating fields about rotor 14 and fed through series resistor, 23-25 and capacitors 26-28, Fig. 2, whose impedance values balance at a reference or datum frequency so that the stator windings 5, 7 are equally energized and the rotor 14 is stationary. If the frequency varies the capacitors 26-28 change in impedance and the excitation of stator windings 7 is changed whereby a difference torque operates to turn rotor 14 and pointer 17 against the restraint of a control spring 15. The latter may be omitted so that rotor 14 drives a regulator to adjust the frequency to the datum value. The construction can be extended to include additional stator windings energized from different sources and frequency and current from a common source may be compared by including an orthodox current-responsive winding.
