Abstract

738,968. Curve-describing instruments. WILLIAMS, O. T. June 1, 1954 [Dec. 30, 1953], No. 36208/53. Class 97 (3). A templet for drawing transitional curves (e.g. in laying out rods) comprises a flat transparent plate 1 having one edge in the form of an' uninterrupted curve comprising a circular arc B and a straight length C joined together by a transition curve D of less curvature than the arcuate portion B, so that a second similar templet 1a may be superimposed on templet 1 and the templets rotated one with respect to the other about the common centre P of the circular arcs to give a continuous symmetrical curve. The tangent points T1, T2 between the straight line C and the curve D, and between the curve D and the circular arc B, respectively, and a line B1 representing a continuation of the circular arc B, are engraved on the templet. A set of templet is prepared for various scales of drawing, transition lengths, and radius of circular curve, the values being marked on each templet.
