Abstract

[Also in Groups XXIV and XXX] A vibratory mechanism 54 comprising a rotating drum secured to the shaft of a driving motor which has an off-centre chamber containing liquid is applied to the feed conveying shoot 52 of a hammer mill 50. The material is fed to the mill from a hopper 55 in accordance with the load on the motor 51 driving the mill 50 by regulating automatically the amplitude of vibration of the vibrator 54. This is done by a solenoid 73 in the motor circuit acting on an arm 70 controlling a valve 66 in a line 65 from a pump 64 supplying liquid to the offset chamber 58 of the rotating drum 57 of the vibrator, the chamber having a leakage aperture 61 so that the amount of liquid therein is dependent upon the rate of supply from the line 65. The pump 64 for the liquid may be omitted and a scoop within a rotating casing containing the chamber 58 employed to return the escaped liquid to a reservoir from where its supply to chamber 58 is controlled.
