A countersinking bit comprises a shank 1, Fig. 2, extending from a body 2 having a conical guide head 3. A sectorshaped recess 11, Fig. 3, of less than 180 degrees, e.g. 90 degrees, is cut in the head and body to receive a blade 6 supported on wall 4 by screw 9 engaging a slot 8 in the blade. Adjustment of the blade axially of the body is effected by a screw 10.
