Abstract

738,583. Steering vehicles. SCHMITZ, J. June 30, 1952, No. 16435/52. Class 79(5). In a vehicle having a two axle support the forward axle 1 is pivotally connected to the vehicle frame at 5 by forwardly converging members 4, members 8 slidably engage the axles of the support and are independently pivoted to the frame at 9, 9<SP>1</SP>, and the rear axle 2 of the support is pivotally connected by forwardly converging members 12 to a point 11 on the axle 1, or on a member connected to the axle 1, whereby steerable deflection of the wheels of a front axle (not shown) of the vehicle causes deflection of the axles 1, 2. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2 the members 8 are in the form of leaf springs and the ends of the springs rest on the axles 1, 2, between stops 10, 10<SP>1</SP>. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 3 the vehicle has two such supports side by side, the front axles 1 being pivotally connected by the members 4 to the vehicle frame at 5, 51 and carrying rearwardly converging members 16 to which the members 12 of the axles 2 are pivoted at 15.
