Abstract

738,428. Window regulators. WILMOT-BREEDEN, Ltd. July 19, 1954 [May 15, 1953], No. 13630/53. Class 20 (3). A power-operated vehicle window regulator comprises a pair of parallel motion links 5, 6 pivoted at 7, 8 adjacent their inner ends on to a base-plate 9 and at their free ends to a support 10 for the lower edge of a window, not shown, the pivot axis 7 of the link 5 being spaced inwardly from its end to accommodate a rotatably mounted pinion 12 which has toothed engagement with a fixed toothed segment 18 on the base-plate 9 and with a toothed segment 19 of smaller radius on a quadrant 13 pivoted on the axis 7, the two toothed segments 18, 19 having a common centre of curvature at the pivot axis 7. The quadrant 13 has a toothed periphery 14 for engagement by a worm 15 connected to the armature spindle 16 of a reversible electric motor 17, rotation of which causes the pinion 12 to roll on the fixed segment 18 and impart the required angular movement to the parallel links 5, 6. The window is counterbalanced by a spring 11 connected between the free end of the link 6 and the base-plate 9. In a modification, a single spring balanced arm is utilized, a worm-wheel, driven by a worm and motor similar to the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, being pivoted to the base-plate on the same axis as the inner end of the single arm and having secured to one of its sides a concentric pinion which meshes with a planetary pinion, rotatably mounted along the single arm, and in mesh, at a diametrically opposite position, with a fixed toothed segment on the base-plate, the centre of curvature of this segment being the axis of the worm-wheel.
