Abstract

738,141. Band clips. MARMAN PRODUCTS CO., Inc. Nov. 23, 1953 [March 26, 1953], No. 32369/53. Class 44. [Also in Group XXVIII] In a pipe joint of the kind in which a divided channel-section clamping ring, having diverging walls 25 adapted to engage inclined faces of pipe flanges 11, and contractible to force the flanges together by wedging action, are return bent outwardly to form buttress flanges 27, the contracting device acting on the buttress flanges as well as on the base 26 of the ring. The buttress flanges may be divergent, radial, or convergent, and may have axial extensions 29 which embrace the ring and abut at the centre of its base. The ring may have a number of segments contractible by a band clip 13, or the peripheral flanges 29 of the segments may be provided with hinges and clamping bolts. In the form shown in Fig. 6 the peripheral flanges 29c are bent back to abut the walls 25 of the ring, the base of which is spot welded to the band 13 at 40. In another form, Fig. 7 (not shown), the buttress flanges have no axial extensions, and abut the contracting band, being located by tongues turned down from the band. In another form, Fig. 8 (not shown), the axial extensions stop short of the base of the ring, and have terminal lugs engaging holes in the contracting band. In all the forms the spaces 41 may be filled with cement.
