[Also in Group XL (a)] A method for the recovery of fly ash from combustion gases comprises introducing finely powdered coal particles into the combustion gases, and then subjecting the gases to mechanical cleaning and electrostatic precipitation. The coal particles are preferably less than 10 microns in size, and are added in the proportion of 10-20 per cent by weight of the fly ash content of the gases. In a powdered coal boiler system the coal particles are derived from the coal pulverizer supplying powdered coal to the boiler.
