Abstract

The physical stability of aqueous suspensions of penicillin compounds is improved by removing the atmospheric oxygen from the unfilled space in the containers in which the suspensions are stored, before, during or after the suspensions are filled into these containers. The air may be replaced by an inert gas such as nitrogen, hydrogen, carbon dioxide or the rare gases such as helium and argon, or mixtures thereof especially mixtures of hydrogen and nitrogen. Penicillin compounds specified are procaine penicillin; N : N-dibenzyl-ethylene diamine penicillin; oxyprocaine penicillin; 2 - chloro - procaine penicillin and hydroiodide of diethylamino ethyl ester.
