Abstract

737,166. Turbine and like blades. OESTRICH, H. June 19, 1951, No. 14530/51. Addition to 737,167. Class 110 (3). This invention relates to a turbine or like blade as claimed in the parent Specification in which the blade comprises a tubular portion of aerofoil section which has a wall, the thickness of which tapers from the root to the tip. The root portion has a middle recess in its lower face and a pair of cooling fluid ingress bores extend from the middle recess to the inner space enclosed by the tubular portion of the blade, the bores being inclined to the longitudinal axis of the blade so that cooling fluid impinges on the inner face of the tubular portion along the leading and trailing edges thereof. A passage is provided between the two bores for receiving the root portion of a cooling fluid guiding unit. The guiding unit comprises an upper tubular portion 2 adapted to fit in the hollow blade portion and a narrower root portion 1 which enters and is secured in the passage 3 in the blade root between the cooling fluid ingress bores 22a, 23a. The guiding unit may be formed from a single blank or from two members secured together at 6, 7. The stem portion is secured by means of a wedge 9 and welding 10. Alternatively, the guiding unit may be formed as in Fig. 4 by superimposing two members 11, 11a and folding about the line C-C ; a pin may be inserted at the bent portion. Two wedge pieces may be used for securing the unit in the blade root passage. Specification 664,938 is referred to.
