Abstract

736,999. Pulse-amplifying circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Aug. 27, 1952, No. 21545/52. Class 40 (6). Pulses to be amplified are applied to the trigger electrode of a gas-discharge tube which fires only in the presence of a pulse from a first source applied to the anode, the tube subsequently being extinguished by a pulse applied from a second source. The Figure shows a pulse repeater in which input pulses are applied at T to the trigger electrode of cold-cathode gas tube PT the bias of which is adjusted by switch SW so that the tube fires only when a positive pulse applied to the anode from terminal A coincides with an input pulse. When the tube fires the cathode which is normally held at - 50 volts by " catcher " diode MR1 rises in potential so that resistor R1 becomes the cathode load as described in Specification 772,643 and an output pulse is produced. The anode pulse is immediately followed by a positive pulse which is applied to the cathode circuit at terminal C so that the tube is extinguished. Rectifier MR3 acts as a D.C. restorer and rectifiers MR2, MR4 isolate the anode and cathode circuits from their respective pulse sources.
