Apparatus for indicating the direction of current flow in an electric circuit, e.g. of an electromagnet used in crack detecting apparatus of the kind described in Specification 735,880, comprises in series with the energizing coil 2 a resistor 1 shunted with two parallel arms respectively containing oppositely poled half-wave rectifiers 4, 6 in series with indicator lamps 3, 5, one of which is illuminated for current flow in each direction.
