Abstract

735,490. Locomotives. HENSCHEL & SOHN GES. June 12, 1953, No. 16317/53. Class 79(1). In a locomotive tender having an air cooled condensing system, a plurality of cooling fans 2 for drawing air through the condensing system are mounted on top of a water supply tank 1 and are operatively connected to, and driven by, an exhaust steam turbine 19 which is located on top of the tank 1 between two of the fans 2. The turbine 19 drives the fans 2 through a gear 4, toothed couplings (not visible in the figure) between the gear 4 and shafts 7, 8 and bevel-gear assemblies 2<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>2</SP>, 2<SP>3</SP>, 24, 2<SP>5</SP>. The assembly 2<SP>3</SP> may be unbolted and removed vertically upwards through a detachable cover. The turbine 19 may then be slid on rails 14 and removed through the same opening. A lubricating system 16 having cleaning and cooling devices 17, 18 is provided for the turbine 19, gear 4 and the assemblies 2<SP>1</SP>-2<SP>4</SP>.
