Abstract
735,141. Conveyer-loaders. ATHEY PRODUCTS CORPORATION. May 18, 1953 [May 23, 1952], No. 13865/53. Class 78 (1). In a power-operated loader an elevating conveyer 20 is overlapped at its receiving end by a feeding conveyer 26 of the same width which feeds material along a channel 66 having side walls 68, 69 converging towards the elevating conveyer from a width greater than that of the feeding conveyer, and side conveyers 63 are provided for moving material across the ends of the side walls remote from the elevatng conveyer and towards the channel. As shown the elevating conveyer 20 consists of an endless belt 22 provided with cleats 38 while the feeding conveyer comprises push-plates 50. The framework of the elevating conveyer 20 is pivotally mounted at its upper end between a pair of A-frames 16 and is adjustably supported at its lower end by means not shown. Conveyer 26 in turn is pivotally mounted by means of a pair of arms 27 carrying its sprocket shafts 44, 47 on the frame of conveyer 20 while the feeding channel 66 is fixed to the frame of conveyer 20. The arms 27 are resiliently and adjustably supported by the combination on each arm of a spring 54 and a fluid-pressure cylinder 53 which can be supplied with varying amounts of fluid under pressure. The piston 55 of cylinder 53 is pivotally mounted on the chassis 10 of the loader while cylinder 53 supports the spring 54 between it and a flange 52 on arm 27. Arms 27 are steadied laterally by guide rollers 61. Thus adjustments can be made for the lump size of the material while large lumps lift the conveyer 26 upwardly relative to the channel 66 as they pass. The push-plates 50 of conveyer 26 are curved to keep the material in the middle of the channel 66. The side conveyers 63 consist of helical blades carried on spokes 64 on extensions of the sprocket shaft 44 of conveyer 26 so arranged as to feed material inwardly towards the channel along a curved plate 29 secured across the channel 66. The blades 63 extend into the channel 66 where the latter is wider than conveyer 26 to ease the material around the corners where plate 29 meets the channel 66. A cutting blade 30 is fixed across the front of plate 29, while a pair of end-plates 32 are positioned at the ends of plate 29 to extend forwardly or rearwardly according to whether a hole 77 or 78 is used for mounting, this reversing including changing the plates from one side to the other. As shown, when plates 32 extend forwardly, material being gathered from windrows is guided into the paths of the auger and push-plate conveyers while plates 32 are fixed in rearwardlyextending position when loading from stockpiles to prevent material passing under the front wheels 13 of the loader which are steerable. The conveyers 20, 26, 63 are driven by enclosed chains from a motor 14 which also drives the rear wheels 12 of the loader.
