Abstract

734,885. Elastic or flexible valves. BLAW KNOX, Ltd. April 21, 1954 [April 21, 1953] Nn. 10939/53. Class 135. [Also in Group XXVIII] A valve for use in, e.g., a pump or pipe-line conveying liquid concrete, comprises a deformable, e.g. rubber, tube 10, Figs. 2, 3, contained within a non-deformable metal casing 11 having diametrically opposed bosses 11a through which pass plungers 12, 13, having transverse head portions 14, 15 abutting the tube and at 90 degrees thereto slots 11b closable by doors 16 hinged to the casing. The plungers and the doors are connected through links 34, 35, 27, 38, shafts 24, 30, 31, 36 and bevelgearing to an operating lever 22, so that on inward movement of the plungers the doors hinge outwardly to open the slots; the tube 10 being flattened by the plungers and pushed outwardly through the slots. In a pump two such valves are fitted, one for inlet and the other for discharge. The operating levers 22 are connected to telescopic operating rods arranged to be oscillated by the pump so that the flow through the inlet valve is a minimum whilst that through the outlet valve is a maximum and vice versa. The plungers and doors may be operated mechanically, hydraulically or pneumatically.
