In an electromagnet having a substantially T-shaped plunger 18 the shock of the striking engagement of the plunger against the core frame 10 is absorbed by a yieldable pad 64 interposed between a supporting plate 24 and the core frame. The plate 24 and the pad 64 are supported by a U-shaped spring fastener 66 which is applied to the frame 10 by a snap-on action. When the plunger is nearing the end of its upward journey, its head 22 strikes a back stop-plate 52 which is resiliently supported by side-plates 34 through resilient members 56. The latter are placed in channels formed in'the plate by flanges 58 which are arranged to be received by openings 62 formed at the top of the sideplates 34.
