Abstract
In preserving foods, especially foods such as dried milk and dehydrated vegetables, in sealed containers, all free oxygen is removed from the container by introducing hydrogen with an inert gas, e.g. nitrogen, into the container in the presence of a catalyst arranged in the container before it is sealed, the catalyst being capable of causing hydrogen and oxygen to form water. The catalyst may be palladium deposited on a carrier such as asbestos, porous ceramic or granular alumina; it may be held in a finely-perforated pocket fixed to the inner side of one end of the container.
