Abstract
Paraffin wax is separated from oil by a flotation process at a relatively low temperature (T1), the foam is separated and subjected to a second flotation process at a higher temperature (T2) at which only a part of the wax reverts to the liquid state, and the oil obtained is subjected to a third flotation process at a temperature (T3) lower than T2 and the foam separated. In the flotation process, the oil is cooled, the solid paraffin wax particles are removed by passing a gas through the oil, and the foam of wax is removed. Gases mentioned are air, nitrogen, methane and propane. The oils from the first and third flotation processes and the foams from the second and third may be blended together. The invention may be carried out in a five-stage process by subjecting the foam from the third flotation to a fourth flotation at a higher temperature (T4), separating the foam and subjecting the oil to a fifth flotation at a lower temperature (T5). T1, T3 and T5 are preferably the same, as also are T2 and T4. The foam may be heated either by a heater or by passing a hot gas through it, and cooling of the oil may be effected either by a cooler or by passing a cold flotation gas therethrough. Diluting agents may be added if the oil is too viscous. The treatment of a gas oil is described. Specifications 733,067 and 734,124 are referred to.ALSO:Paraffin wax is separated from oil by a flotation process at a relatively low temperature (T1), the foam is separated and subjected to a second flotation process at a higher temperature (T2) at which only part of the wax reverts to the liquid state, and the oil contained is subjected to a third flotation process at a temperature (T3) lower than T2 and the foam separated.
