733,421. Optical viewing apparatus. ROMANS, A. H. Jan. 19, 1954 [Jan. 22, 1953], No. 1857/53. Class 97 (1). In viewing apparatus in the general form of a pocket torch having a reflector on its front face, means for supporting a transparency to be viewed and detachable means adjacent the reflector for securing a viewing lens, the said detachable means has fast with it one end of an extensible bellows device which, at its other end, supports the viewing lens at an adjustable distance from the transparency. As shown the device comprises a casing 11 containing a light source and reflector behind a glass plate 13, and a bridge member 18 fixed thereto and having upstanding flanges 24 surround the plate 13 and adapted to receive a frame 31 to which one end of an extensible opaque bellows 28 is secured, the other end of the bellows supporting a viewing lens 29. When thus assembled sliders may be inserted through the aperture 38 between the bridge 18 and the casing 11 so as to lie over the plate 13 and be illuminated by the lamp for inspection through the lens 29. For slides smaller than the width of the aperture 38 a suitable metal carrier may be provided.
