Abstract

732,758. Insulators. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Aug. 19, 1954 [Aug. 21, 1953], No. 23111/53. Class 36. A supporting structure for switchgear 1 comprises upper and lower members 4, 5 connected by two or more legs, each of which comprises at least one insulating supporting element 2 and at least one elastic supporting element 3 arranged so that the structure is divided into a number of substantially rigid portions connected together by elastic portions. Each leg may comprise three hollow ceramic insulators 2 and two elastic elements 3, which may be of spring steel, joining the legs to members 4, 5. Tie rods 6 may be provided between the legs. Each member 3 may comprise parallel annular flanges 3a joined by a tubular web 3b with which they may be integral. One flange 3a is bolted to member 5 and the other to the insulator end flange 9, a support plate 8 being interposed. The joints are sealed by gaskets 10, and a cover-plate 11 may be provided.
