Abstract
732,560. Tamping-machines. SOC. ANON. DES ETABLISSEMENTS A. VALUY, and MATERIEL CERAMIQUE MODERNE SOC. a r.l. Sept. 10, 1952 [Sept. 11, 1951; July 11, 1952], No. 22721/52. Class 87 (2). The mould and tamping mechanism are enclosed within an airtight casing 4, Fig. 1, from which air is extracted through a cock 16 before tamping is effected. A door 5 permits access to the mould. The mould consists of a base 10, 12 and a peripheral wall 11 resting thereon. A plunger 13 rests on ceramic material 14 in the mould and is forced down by repeated blows from a hammer 17. The hammer is raised by mechanism (not illustrated) that is disposed outside the tamping chamber and operates through a lever 19 pivoted at 19<1> and engaging the hammer between a roller 20 and a shockabsorber 21. When the hammer has been raised to the position shown, in which position it is supported by a catch 24, the catch' is turned clockwise by the mechanism to allow the hammer to fall. The compressed mass is ejected by means of a rack-and-pinion device 27, 28. Fig. 2 shows a modification in which the free fall of the hammer is supplemented by super-atmospheric pressure or atmospheric pressure acting on a piston 29 secured to the hammer.
