Abstract

732,434. Packaging frozen confections. WALL & SONS, Ltd., T. March 24, 1952 [April 4, 1951], No. 7787/51. Class 94 (1). A frozen confection, intended for consumption whilst held in the hand, is enclosed in a paper bag of uniform cross-section coated internally with a heatsealing composition other than paraffin wax, the composition being in direct contact with the confection and such as to render the bag substantially leak-proof and its interior sufficiently smooth to allow the confection to be extruded by finger pressure. As shown, the bag 1 is of triangular section and made from glazed imitation parchment coated on the inner or both sides with the heat-sealing lacquer used for forming the side seams and bottom seam 4. The bag is filled to the desired level with the liquid confection, which has previously been chilled to about 0‹C., and then passed through a refrigerating blast tunnel, whereby the confection is frozen to form a stick 2. The top of the bag may then be closed by a readily-opened seal. In use, the bag is grasped in the region A and the resultant thawing of the surface layers of the stick enables it to be extruded by pressing upwardly on the lower end of the bag.
