Abstract
732,363. Blasting cartridges. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. April 24, 1953 [June 23, 1952], No. 15739/52. Class 9(1). In a re-utilisable blasting assembly 1 of readily assembled construction comprising a discharge head 12, a frangible disc 14 and an electrically actuated heater 8 for initiating the decomposition of a gas-generating charge 7, at least one of the electrical lead wires 9, 91 of the heater is insulated and passes through the disc 14 to form with it an insulated gastight seal and has a free end which passes through the wall of the discharge head. The steel disc 14 is bonded to a rubber gasket 17 and is welded to a copper sleeve 15 into which is forced a tube 16 of polymerised chloroprene composition or a plug 19 of fusible metal, see Fig. 2 (not shown). The charge 7 consists of a mixture of sodium nitrite, ammonium chloride and magnesium oxide. The heater 8 comprises a mixture of antimony and potassium permanganate disposed in a copper casing which is crimped around a plug of polymerized chloroprene composition. Insulated conductors 9, 9<SP>1</SP> lead from a matchhead 10 to the member 16 ; one conductor 91 being brazed or soldered to the sleeve 15 and the other conductor 8 being secured to a firing switch or battery.
