Abstract

731,834. Sliding clasp fasteners. MANES, G. MASTRACCHI-. July 17, 1952 [Oct. 16, 1951], No. 18122/52. Class 44. Relates to a sliding clasp fastener of the kind comprising two strips of resilient material adapted to be gripped by one another, one of the strips having along one edge a continuous beading of pincer-like section 16 and the other strip having along one edge a continuous beading of headed section 20 which in the closed condition of the fastener is engaged within the beading of pincer-like section, a slider being provided for engaging and disengaging the two beadings. According to the invention, the slider comprises a jacket with open ends and having oppositely disposed slots 2 extending longitudinally over the whole distance between the open ends, which slots lie in a common plane, a longitudinally extending web 1 normal to this plane carried by the jacket and disposed adjacent one end thereof, the beadings passing one at each side of the web 1 and through the jacket while portions 17, 21 of the strips behind the beadings are accommodated in the slots, and guiding surfaces 3, 8 and 9 formed on or carried by the jacket and the web causing the beadings to converge in a longitudinal direction extending away from the web and to engage within one another, which guiding surfaces engage behind each beading and also engage no more than the tip of the beading of headed section and the tips of the jaws of the beading of pincer-like section, otherwise being disposed at least substantially clear of the external and internal profiles of the beadings. A reinforcing rib 13 carries a pull tab 15. In a modification, Figs. 3 and 5 (not shown), the guide surfaces 8, 9 are replaced by two pins forming between them a gap to receive the flat portion of the head-section strip, which is provided with an outer beading for gripping the pincer members of the other strip. The surface 3 for the strip 16 may be replaced by parallel ribs similar to those for the strip 20.
