The other stringer which travels through the curved path in the slider can be coupled with a flexible support, thus adapting the fastener to new uses in this respect, and uses which would not be possible with the conventional type of sliders.

In separable fastener stringers of the kind under consideration, it has been customary to provide sliders having diverging channels arranged in horizontal alinement in the slider body. These diverging channels converge in a single channel at the narrow end of the slider in drawing the scoops of a pair of stringers together. Furthermore, the channels are arranged in a common horizontal plane and open through both ends of the slider and also through side edges thereof.
The present invention deals with a slider construction wherein one channel of the slider extends in a substantially straight line through the slider body opening through both ends thereof and through one side edge, whereas the other channel is a curved channel and opens through one end only of the slider body and through one side surface thereof, as well as 2 through aside edge.

Thescoops |4-and liare both of the same con struction andare ll-shaped in .cross sectional form throughout the length thereof, .as will clearly appear from aconsidcration :of Fig. 12;.0f the -.i drawing. The scoops have coupling end portions comprising :couplingzheads 1.6 and H respectivelmzof substantial diamond shaped cross sectional :form, .imvardly .lof which are shaped recesses l8 and I9 adapted to receive the heads I! and I6 respectively of the scoops of opposed stringers, in the manner illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawing. Considering Fig. 2, it will appear that the scoops l4 and I5 at the coupling end portions thereof have outwardly diverging wings 2|] and 2| respectively, and in coupling the stringers together, the wings 20 at one side of the scoops l4 are adapted to fit between the wings 2| of the scoops I5 or enter the recesses 22 between adjacent wings 2|, as will clearly appear from a consideration of Fig. 2 of the drawing. As both stringers are identical, it is immaterial which stringer is operated in the curved path through my improved slider 23.
The slider 23 is in the form of an elongated body having straight side edges 24 and 25 and straight ends 26 and 21, thus giving to the slider a more or less rectangular block contour. The upper surface 28 and lower surface 29 are also parallel to each other, the upper surface including an elongated pull coupling loop 30 centrally and longitudinally thereof. Extending longitudinally at one side portion of the slider 23, at the side 24, is an elongated channel 3| partially defined by inturned flanges 32 which form a narrow opening 33 longitudinally of the edge 24 Further, the two schannels have overlapped portions which are .arrange'd in for the free passage of the stringer tape I I therethrough. The channel 3| is further defined by the top and bottom walls of the slider and by an enlarged body portion 34. The irmer wall 35 of the portion 34 is spaced from the flanges 32 to such an extent that the channel 3| freely accommodates the scoops 15 of the stringer II. The surface 36 of this body portion is curved, as clearly indicated in Fig. 2 of the drawing and also shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing.
The bottom wall 29 of the slider has a large rectangular opening 31, which opens through the side edge 25 of the slider body-and is given a partially channel contour by an inturned flange portion 38 which is of a curvature paralleling the curved surface 36, as will clearly appear from a consideration of Fig. 2 of the drawing. The inner wall 39 of the opening or channel 37 is spaced inwardly beyond the longitudinal center of the slider, as seen in Fig. 3 of the drawing, sufficiently to provide free entrance of the scoops I4 of the stringer l0.
Both the longitudinal channel 3| and the curved channel 31, as is evident from the drawings, are of a depth greater than half the depth of the slider body.
It will, of course, be apparent that my invention is not limited to any particular contour in the slider body. However, in that the stringers are brought together with the coupling portions of the scoops maintained in common alinement, sliders of much narrower construction than those heretofore commonly employed can be used, in that the width of the slider can be confined to the width of the coupled scoops of the stringer plus the Width of the flange portions which overlie the edges of the scoops.
One of the distinctive features in the slider construction resides in the provision of the curved channel which guides the scoops through one end and one face of the slider rather than through both ends thereof, and further aids in maintaining alinement of the coupling portions of the scoops of both stringers at least in the passage of the scoops through the slider body. It will also be apparent that by providing the straight channel in the slider body, this will enable one stringer to be mounted in a longitudinally straight 4 line, and in some instances, may be arranged upon a rigid support. The other stringer which travels through the curved path in the slider can be coupled with a flexible support, thus adapting the fastener to new uses in this respect, and uses which would not be possible with the conventional type of sliders.
7 Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A slider for separable fastener stringers having an upper surface and a lower surface, a channel extending through said slider from end to end thereof and parallel to said surfaces, a second channel in said sliderextending from one end thereof and opening through one of said surfaces, said channels merging within the slider.
2. A slider for separable fastener stringers having coreless scoops of substantially V-shaped cross sectional form, said slider having an upper surface and a lower surface, a channel extending through said slider from end to end thereof and parallel to said surfaces for guiding the scoops of one stringer in a substantially straight path through the slider, a second channel in said slider extending from one end thereof and opening through one of said surfaces for guiding the scoops of the other stringer in a curved path through the slider, said channels merging within the slider.
