Abstract

731,394. Hinges. SICKINGER, H., [trading as MECANO-SPEZIALARTIKEL FUR KRAFTFAHRZEUGE H. SICKINGER]. Feb. 27, 1953 [Oct. 16, 1952], No. 5524/53. Class 65(2). [Also in Group XXXII] In a mounting of the kind in which a screwthreaded bolt 3 is rotatable in a threaded sleeve which is fixed in a surrounding bush 2, the sleeve is in the form of a helical spring 1, which has a greater diameter (when relaxed) than that of the bush 2. As shown, the invention is applied to the mounting of a leaf spring eye 2 on shackle plates 4. The spring is given a rotation in order to contract it for insertion into the eye 2. The spring 1 may alternatively be of triangular, square, rectangular or trapezoidal cross-section material. The spring 1 is formed with notches 5 for a screw driver used to turn the spring when inserting it into the leaf spring eye. The spring 1 is retained in the eye by the engagement of its end coil with a detent at 6. Alternatively (Figs. 3 and 4. not shown) the leading coil of the spring 1 may be rabbeted to engage the edge formed between the end-face and bore of the leaf spring eye. The end and leading coils of the spring may be bent inwards, so that the tip of each of these coils bears against the pin 3. This damps lateral movement of the pin 3. The spring 1 may be secured in the leaf spring eye by a cement which has the property of chemically uniting them by oxidation.
