[Also in Groups VIII, XIX, XXII and XXXVI] A smooth wea resisting surface for textile rolls is formec by embedding dia mond particles into the surface thereof The particles are pre ferably very small anc may be in the forn of dust ; they may be mixed with particles of other hard materials such as corundum or hard carbides. In one embodiment, Fig. 3, a thread-winding or guide roller f made of steel or hard bronze and having a V-shaped periphery, is mounted for rotation adjacent a pressing roller r made of a harder material than the guide roller. During slow rotation of the rollers, diamond particles d having blunt edges are poured between the rollers and are pressed into the surface of the guide roller f.
