Abstract
3687. Paban, F. March 9, 1914, [Convention date]. Felt.-Consists in making felt into rods by rolling sheets of felt and subjecting the rolled sheets to pressure and rolling action to produce the felting together of the various layers. These rods are intended especially to be cut into disks for making wads for cartridges. This process is carried out by a machine, shown in Figs. 1 and 2, comprising a belt c carried on rollers b, b<1> and travelling under a third roller e, the rollers being driven by a belt in conjunction with fast and loose pulleys J, J<1> and a ferk K operated through link-work o, n, m by a handle l for shifting the driving-belt, and the roller e being carried by a bell-crank t, t<1> operated through link-work u, v by a handle v<1> for raising and lowering the roller e out of and into its operative position. The sheet d of felt, Fig. 3, is carried by the belt c towards the roller e, which throws its edge back and causes the sheet to roll upon itself, as shown at f, and thus to form a rod which becomes felted under the combined action of the rolling and the pressure exerted by the roller e. Sheets rolled in any other way may be felted by being placed between reciprocating plates or on adjacent rollers rotating in the same direction.
