Abstract
Aluminium-base alloys, suitable for the component parts of brazed constructions, have the following composition: Mg 0.5-1.2 per cent, Si 0.5-1.4 per cent, Ni 0.75-1.6 per cent, Fe 0.3-0.8 per cent, Cu 0.25-0.45 per cent, Al the balance, the proportions of Ni and Fe being selected so that the Ni content is not less than 1.5 times or more than 4 times the Fe content. The alloy may also include Ti up to 0.4 per cent, Mn 0.4-1.0 per cent and/or Cr 0.1-0.6 per cent. The alloys may be solution-treated at 540 DEG C. and age-hardened, after rapid cooling, at 160 DEG C. The brazing metal used may be an Al-Si alloy containing 10 per cent Si or 10 per cent Si and 4 per cent Cu or 10 per cent Si, 10 per cent Zn and 4 per cent Cu or 12.5 per cent Si, 4 per cent Cu and 3 per cent Ni. The Provisional Specification describes also alloys in which the range of proportions of Ni is 1.0-2.5 per cent, of Fe p 0.5-1.5 per cent and of Cu 0.25-0.65 per cent.
