Abstract
731,193. Ratchet clutches. ETABLISSEMENTS MERLIN & GERIN SOC. ANON. Jan. 27, 1953 [Jan. 29, 1952], No. 2302/53. Class 80 (2). [Also in Groups XXX and XXXVII] The drive to a centrifugal switch controlling a conveyer is adjustable so as to permit of rotation in both or only one direction. The roller 1 is driven by the conveyer and thus rotates a plate 2 fixed thereto. The centrifugal weights 20 are attached to a driven plate 5 having raised segments 14, 15 adapted to be engaged by a pawl 8 on plate 2. The pawl 8 is biased by a spring 10 and is pivoted at 9. In the position shown, rotation of plate 2 in either direction causes the side face of pawl 8 to abut the end face of segment 14 or 15 so that the plate 5 is also rotated in the same direction. If the pawl is turned through 90 degrees by a pin 6, the outer end face of pawl 8 will engage, e.g., segment 14, and will drive the plate 5. Reverse rotation, however, causes the sloping face of pawl 8 to abut segment 15 so that the pawl rides up over the segment and does not drive the plate 5. Adjustment of pawl 8 through a further 180 degrees ensures one-way rotation of plate 5 in the reverse direction. The pin 6 is located axially by means not shown, and angularly by a spring ball engaging recesses 17.
