Abstract

731,190. Transducers. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRO - CERAMIQUE. Jan. 19, 1953 [Jan. 17, 1952], No. 1515/53. Class 40 (1). A transducer for use with a dynamometer comprises a ceramic former on which is embedded a coil winding, or having metallized surfaces to form a capacitance, the deformation of the former under compression producing corresponding changes in reactance. As shown, a coil 2 (Fig. 1) is wound in grooves on a ceramic support 1, which is subjected to compression between end-plates 7, 8. In modifications the coil is formed by metallizing the surface, and for smaller pressures the support may be a helix (Fig. 3). In a further embodiment, the deformation of a ceramic bar 25 (Fig. 4) is measured by a coil 32, which may be supplied with a magnetic core. A capacity transducer comprises a ceramic plate 34 (Fig. 5) metallized on its faces 35, 36, or a ceramic tube 39 (Fig. 6), metallized on its faces 40, 41, or containing ceramic bars 48, 49 (Fig. 7) metallized on the facing ends 50, 51. The Specification states that a coil winding of suitable shape may comprise both inductance and capacity.
