Abstract

730,970. Plafform elevators; loading aircraft. BLACKBURN & GENERAL AIRCRAFT, Ltd., BRUMBY, H., and WARBURTON, D. S. May 19, 1953 [May 21, 1952], No. 12878/52. Classes 78 (3) and 78 (4). A lift comprises a pair of load-carrying members 1, 2 supported by riders 4 from two pairs of screws 5, 6, rotated simultaneously. In the form illustrated the lift is employed for loading rails 25 provided in the freight compartment of the aircraft of Specification 730,969, [Group XXXIII]. The screws are driven through bevels 11, 12, 13, 14 and chains and sprockets from an electric motor 16 which drives through a torque limiting clutch 21 and is controlled from outside by a switch 20 or from inside by a controller 19. The screws may also be driven by manual cranks 23, 24, when the clutch 21 has been disengaged by a lever 22. The riders 4 are guided by rollers 26 which engage within channel-section members 27 and the movement is limited by engagement of the rollers with the upper ends of the channels or by engagement of the rider with brackets 8 supporting the upper bearings of the screws. The lift may be employed in conjunction with the vehicle carriers of Specification 730,971.
