Abstract
A nutrient medium suitable for use in the production of aureomycin and cobal amines when inoculated with S. aureofaciens, comprises in the following proportions by weight:- <TABS:0730919/IV (b)/1> The nutrient medium of the example consists of corn steep liquor (penicillin grade, 50 per cent solids), calcium carbonate, sucrose, ammonium sulphate, ammonium chloride, magnesium chloride, ferrous sulphate, manganese sulphate, zinc sulphate and cobalt chloride. To produce aureomycin and Vitamin B12, the pH of the medium is 5 to 8 and especially pH 6.2 to 6.6, the temperature is 20 DEG to 35 DEG C., and preferably 27 DEG to 28 DEG C., aeration is at a rate of 0.33 to 1.0 volumes of air per volume of medium per minute and agitation is with an input to the impeller of the agitator of between 0.2 to 2 horse power per 100 gallons of medium. Antifoaming agents, e.g. lard oil containing 1 per cent octadecanol, may be present. Specification 690,381 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 695,273.ALSO:A nutrient medium suitable for use in the production of aureomycin and cobaltamines when inoculated with S. aureofaciens comprises in the following proportions by weight: <TABS:0730919/VI/1> The nutrient medium of the example consists of corn steep liquor (penicillin grade, 50 per cent solids), calcium carbonate, sucrose, ammonium sulphate, ammonium chloride, magnesium chloride, ferrous sulphate, manganese sulphate, zinc sulphate and cobalt chloride. Specification 690,381, [Group IV (b)], is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 695,273.
