Abstract
730,556. Printing-apparatus. SUCKER GES., GEB. Jan. 10, 1951 [Jan. 12, 1950], No. 732/51. Class 100(2). [Also in Group VIII] Printing yarns and threads; stopping, starting, &c.-A marking device for travelling fabrics or a band of threads passing through a machine comprises a metering device for measuring lengths of material and including a member engaging the material and a counting mechanism, a stamp movable into contact with the material to apply a mark thereto, electrically operable means for moving the stamp, means generating an electrical impulse when each predetermined length of material has been measured and for transmitting the impulse to the stamp - moving means, a switch in the circuit to the stamp-moving means, and a control device operable during the generation of the impulse to actuate the switch and so determine the period of operation of the stamp. In this way, a number of spaced spot-marks can be made on a particular length of the web. A roller 14, Fig. 15, measures the web 8 and transmits its movement to a counter 15, carrying an impulse generating means and a control means 2, 3, 5 by which a switch 1 is controlled so as to transmit impulses to a marking apparatus including a colour device 10, counter roller 7 and impact roller 6. Alternatively, if the material is laid in folds, a fold-counting device can be arranged to close the switch. The control device comprises a disc 2 having a recess whose length is adjustable by a segment 3 and co-operating with a roller on a spring-urged lever actuating the mercury tube switch 1. Two or more control discs may be mounted on a common shaft, and the discs may have one or more projections or recesses or both, in which last case the switch will have two extreme operative positions and one central inoperative position. In one form of marking apparatus, Fig. 9, energization of a solenoid 21 causes a shaft 23 carrying an arm 22 supporting the impact roller 6 to be raised, whereupon a chain 12 fixed to a spring 9 causes the arm 22 to rotate into contact with a stop 13, and then to further rise and press the roller 6 into contact with the material 8 and counter roller 7, the roller 6 initially lying in the colour device 10. In another form, Fig. 11, the solenoid 21 causes a swinging movement of the roller 6 against the roller 7, and the latter is supplied with colour from the device 10. In another form, Fig. 13, a rotary magnet 21a or step motor causes through a pinion 24 and rack 25 the roller 6 to be raised against the roller 7, which is supplied with colour. In a further form, the roller 6 is swung against the roller 7 as in Fig. 11, but the roller 6 is above and the roller 7 and colour device 10 below the material.
