730,344. Making composite articles; casting. VERVOORT, M., [trading as GURONITGES. FUR NICHTROSTENDEN GUSS NACHF. B. VERVOORT]. April 29, 1953 [April 30, 1952], No. 11879/53. Classes 83 (1) and 83 (2). In making parts for presses, cruching-jaws, &c., a thin layer of iron is welded to a wearresisting casting before the latter solidifies and after cooling, the layer is hard-soldered to a high-strength steel plate. A part of a briquetting press is made by casting a part 1 of a high wear resistance alloy containing 3.5 per cent carbon and 30 per cent chromium in a split mould A, B against a layer 2 which may be a single iron plate or a number of spaced iron strips, which layer is thus welded to the part 1. After cooling, the iron plate or each of the strips is ground or polished and copper or brasssoldered, in a protective-atmosphere furnace, to a steel plate 7.
