Abstract
In a method of making shell moulds or cores from a fine grained mass containing a constituent which hardens or sets under heat, the material is introduced into an electrically non-conductive mould which is at or about room temperature and is hardened or solidified therein by capacitative high frequency action to p produce a mould or core of the required final thickness. The material is introduced into the mould by blowing and the hardened shells are finally cured in an oven. The non-conductive mould comprises a pattern plate and a part arranged at such a distance therefrom as to leave a mould cavity of the dimensions of the shell mould or core to be produced. The parts may be of wood, gypsum, rubber or ceramic, or of the same material as the shell moulds or cores to be produced, being cured before introduction into the high frequency furnace.
