Abstract

A thermosetting phenolic resin composition for sealing the cover of a battery to the container consists of 98 per cent of resin and accelerator, 1.5 per cent alcohol and 0.5 per cent of black dye to which a filler may be added consisting of diatomaceous earth, asbestos fibres or walnut-shell flour to the extent of 15 to 30 per cent of the weight of resin. The joint between the cover and container may first be caulked with a paste of the resin mixed with powdered asbestos or silica.
