Change-speed epicyclic gearing giving six forward speeds and one reverse between coaxial driving and driven shafts A, B comprises three sun-ring trains T<SP>1</SP>, T2, T<SP>3</SP> of which sun a<SP>1</SP> of T<SP>1</SP> is connected through an intermediate shaft C to ring b<SP>3</SP> of T3, ring bl of TI is rigid with carrier d2 of T2 and is provided with a brake Fl, carrier d<SP>1</SP> of T<SP>1</SP> is rigid with driven shaft B and with ring b<SP>2</SP> of T<SP>2</SP>, sun a<SP>2</SP> of T<SP>2</SP> is provided with a brake F2, sun a<SP>3</SP> of T<SP>3</SP> is provided with a brake F<SP>3</SP>, and carrier d<SP>3</SP> of F<SP>3</SP> is. rigid with driving shaft A and is clutchable either by a clutch M to sun a<SP>3</SP> or by a clutch N to sun a<SP>2</SP>. For fifth, which is direct, M and N are engaged, so that T<SP>1</SP>, T<SP>2</SP>, T3 are all solid. For sixth, which is overdrive, N and F<SP>3</SP> are engaged so that T<SP>3</SP> overdrives and T<SP>1</SP>, T<SP>2</SP> are compounded. For reverse, N and F<SP>1</SP> are engaged, drive being through T<SP>2</SP> only. All the brakes and clutches are engaged by spring-retracted fliud-operated pistons, the supply of fluid from a pump 90 being controlled by piston valves S, U, of which valve U has three positions corresponding to forward speeds, neutral, and reverse, the forward-speeds position being shown in Fig. 3, while valve S, which may be operated manually or automatically, has six positions corresponding to the six forward speeds, first-speed position being shown in Fig. 3. In the reverse position of valve U, valve S is by-passed, fluid passing direct from valve U through pipes 35, 51 to engage N and F<SP>1</SP>.
