729,080. Gas meters. METERS, Ltd., and BROOKES, G. Jan. 7, 1954 [Jan. 15, 1953, No. 1196/53. Class 54. The index container i of a gas meter of the soldered or tin plate type is pressed out of the front plate j of the meter and soldered to a recess in the valve plate c, the container extending partly above and partly below the valve plate. The flag rods a are cranked below their bearings b in the valve plate c and connected directly to the diaphragm discs d, and such bearings are located so close to the centre division wall e between the diaphragm chambers that the flag rod arms f have to be crossed between the flag rods and the links g by which the tangent arm h is turned. The valves o are turned by links q about a fixed pivot p, the links being driven by a crank r which also drives the index mechanism and the latter being connected to the crank through a stuffing-box s. Ledges n formed on inwardly directed flanges on the inlet and outlet pipes k, m, which are formed integrally with the meter bottom, support the valve plate. A prepayment mechanism u may be connected with the index mechanism by a shaft v enclosed in a sleeve w.
