728,799. Splitting coco-nuts. REY, H. D. July 17, 1953, No. 19868/53. Class 58. [Also in Group VI] A coco-nut 68, hand placed on spaced bars 64, is split by a blade 17 on a falling weight 16 which has been raised by a cable 21 on a power rotated drum 22, and released automatically when at the top. The operator swings clutch handle 32 to position 70, Fig. 4, to engage the dog clutch of winding drum 22 whereupon the weight 16 and attached blade 17 are raised by cable 21. At the top a bracket 40 on the weight trips a bar 43 whereby the attached rod 41 rocks lever 32 back to declutching position allowing the blade 17 to descend on a coco-nut placed on bars 64 and centred by leaf springs 67. In the case of a smaller nut the operator can swing the clutch handle 32 to declutch the weight 16 before it has attained its full height. A rubber &c. block is interposed between the weight 16 and the blade 17.
