Abstract

2 : 4 - Dichloro - 6 - (2 : 4 - dichloro - phenoxy) - triazine is prepared by reacting an aqueous suspension of cyanuric chloride with an aqueous solution of 2 : 4-dichlorophenol and sodium hydroxide at a temperature of 0-5 DEG C. 2-Chloro-4 : 6-bis-(2 : 4-dichloro-phenoxy)-triazine is prepared by reacting an aqueous suspension of the 2 : 4-dichloro compound with a further quantity of 2 : 4-dichlorophenol and sodium hydroxide at an increased temperature. Other chloro aryloxy triazines are similarly prepared.ALSO:A fungicidal composition comprises a chloro aryloxy 1 : 3 : 5-triazine of the formula: <FORM:0728675/VI/1> wherein x is an integer from 0 to 4 and n is 1 or 2, together with a diluent. A long list of chloro aryloxy 1 : 3 : 5-triazines is given. A surface active agent is also preferably present. Salts of alkyl and alkaryl sulphonates, alkyl sulphates, alkylamide sulphonates alkaryl polyether alcohols, fatty acid esters of polyhydric alcohols and ethylene oxide addition products of such esters, and addition products of long-chain mercaptans and ethylene oxide are specified. The composition may be a solution in a solvent such as benzene, xylene, toluene; acetone, methylethyl ketone, cyclohexanone; carbon tetrachloride, trichloro- or perchloroethylene; ethyl, butyl or amyl acetate; ethyl, isopropyl or amyl alcohol; carbitols or cellosolves. It may also be a water suspension or an oil-in-water emulsion using a water insoluble solvent such as kerosene, benzene, naphtha; butanol, oleyl alcohol; tri- or perchloroethylene. It may also be a dust formulation containing a diluent such as talc, fuller's earth, pyrophyllite, bentonite, montmorillonite, attaclay, the filtrols, or celite. Dust formulations containing surface active agents may be suspended in aqueous or other liquid medium. A concentration of 0.1 to 10,000 p.p.m. of the active fungicial triazine is preferred.
