728,540. Coin-freed prepayment mechanisms. BEGWACO METERS, Ltd. Jan. 14, 1954 [Feb. 27, 1953], No. 5504/53. Class 27. In a bi-coin prepayment mechanism having a coin holder with a single coin insertion slot, a single striker lever i engages a single quantity wheel o at different angularly-spaced points according to the value of the coin inserted. A larger coin bears on the face f of a spring-loaded slide a and moves it along pins c so that a pin g acting on a cam surface h pivots the spring-loaded striker lever i about a fixed fulcrum k and engages a tooth n with the quantity wheel o, which can then be turned to its fullest extent by means of a handle r on the coin holder. A smaller coin e moves the slide a only sufficiently to move the lever i to the left by the distance allowed by the slot into which the fixed fulcrum k projects, so that a flange s on the lever can engage a stationary face cam or ramp p and the lever is pivoted to engage the quantity wheel when the holder is rotated to a point where the flange s rides up on the ramp p. If there is no coin in the holder, the lever is clear of the ramp and the quantity wheel is not affected by turning of the coin holder. Angular adjustment of the complete holder in the front plate of the meter varies the distances between the coin slot and the coin ejection slot, thus varying the quantity delivered for each larger coin and adjustment of the ramp p on the holder varies the point at which a smaller coin causes engagement of the striker lever and the quantity wheel.
